NE TENTES AUT PERFICE

(ATTEMPT NOT, BUT SUCCEED)

This powerful phrase, inscribed on our historic coat of arms, sums up our vision of achievers expresses our philosophy. From its very beginning and throughout its history, the Champagne de Lossy champagne house has cultivated an entrepreneurial spirit.

WHERE IT ALL BEGINS

In 1862, London-based wine merchant Henri Alexandre de Lossy, Baron de Ville de Maugremont, founded CHAMPAGNE DE LOSSY in Rilly la Montagne. A visionary with family roots in France, he realized his dream of building a majestic château in the heart of the Champagne region. More than a landmark, this château symbolizes the ambition, refinement and art de vivre of CHAMPAGNE DE LOSSY.

THE MARK OF AUDACIOUS
ENTREPRENEURS

From 1885, DE LOSSY enters a new chapter under the entrepreneurial leadership of Jonathan Holden, a visionary English industrialist. Heir to a family famous for its innovations in wool weaving and its revolutionary patents, Jonathan Holden brought entrepreneurial energy and international flair to the company.

Under his careful guidance, DE LOSSY flourished, spreading its influence far and wide. In 1892, it proudly appeared in the guides to great French wines and was enjoyed in every corner of the world: from England to the United States, via Brazil, Australia and New Zealand. With its solid roots and cosmopolitan allure, DE LOSSY embodies the champagne of great achievers and life’s most exceptional moments.

After Jonathan Holden’s passing in 1906, the company valiantly survived World War I but produced its last Vintage in 1929. The Great Depression marked a turning point for the brand as it entered a period of great repose.

A SPIRIT THAT CONTINUES

Modern day entrepreneurs with a deep connection and love for the Champagne region rediscovered the iconic brand and decided to awaken sleeping beauty. Every part of the historic brand was painstakingly located, acquired and put back together in a magnificent way. The original Château, the historic Cellars, the original Winery, the Vineyards of Rilly la Montagne and the Talent of our local winemakers are all assembled again into a Grande Maison reclaiming its spot as the pinnacle of the Champagne region.

HONORING THROUGH PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE WHAT NATURE HAS TO OFFER

Making great wines in Champagne requires a long-term dedication to preserving the delicate balance between harvesting what Mother Nature gives you in the present and caring for vineyards passed down through generations.

Every bottle of CHAMPAGNE DE LOSSY is made with care and respect for nature, from the most respectful farming of the land by our selected growers to the most innovative practices by our talented winemakers.

Our wine-growing techniques are centered on five pillars : proximity, generosity, eleagence, precision and no compromise. We are deeply connected to our vineyards in Rilly-la-Montagne, allowing our winemakers to intimately understand and select the best grapes for their champagne. By closely monitoring the vineyards, our winemakers harvest at the peak of flavor, ensuring that only the freshest and most vibrant fruits go into our wines. Our winemakers use only the finest part of the grape pressing and carefully blending their wines, resulting in harmonious and elegant champagne. Our vineyards, managed with the highest HVE3 certification for sustainability, are our legacy. We prioritize quality over quantity : limited cuvées that showcase the best of each vintage, even if it means fewer bottles.

THE HEART OF OUR CRAFT

Our historic cellars were carved directly into the limestone in 1862 when the chateau was built by our founder.

Our cellars are some of the deepest in the region with over 900 meters of natural “crayères” keeping a perfectly constant temperature and humidity level throughout the year. This offers the perfect environment for slow and consistent maturation of our precious wines over many years and until they reach their pinnacle. Our winemakers keep a watchful eye on our rare cuvees and keep tasting them until they believe the optimum tension has been reached between maturity of the blend and preservation of the character of the fruits. The human touch all along the process is what elevates Nature’s bounty into emotions from the popping of the cork to the moment you taste it.
